General Electricity Company: Load-shedding Rumors Baseless.

Tripoli, 16 June 2015(Lana) The General Electricity Company has
urged subscribers not to be taken by malicious rumors that load
shedding scheme was fabricated by the company and not real.
The company stressed, in a statement, that these rumors were
utterly baseless and designed to create confusion for those who were
aware of the situation in the company, and the difficult situation it
faced.
'The reality is that power consumption currently is far more
greater than the power that the company is able to generate, due to a
halt of power generation projects as a result of departure of
contracting companies, the statement said.
It pointed out to disconnection of power circuits in a number of
Libyan cities due to armed clashes, and a halt of maintenance work at
generation units, as a result of departure of foreign experts,
including the stations of Al Roweis, Khoms, Al Zweitina, which
aggravated the situation.
The statement noted that work was suspended at power generation
units including Al Khaleej Steam Station with 1400 megawatts, West
Tripoli steam unit 1400 megawatts, Obari Steam station 640 megawatts,
in addition to Al Zweitina project with 250 megawatts.
The statement said the company was doing all in its capacity to
ensure that maintenance work was promptly caried out, to alleviate
the effect on the national grid.
