Officials and Academics: Libya not Alone Responsible for Illegal Migration to Europe.

Tripoli, 15 June 2105(Lana) Libyan officials and academics have re-affirmed that Libya was not alone to blame for the illegal migration phenomenon across its territory to Europe, being a transit point, but the solution to the problem should begin at the source countries. They demanded, at a workshop organized by the Ministry of Foreign Cooperation in Tripoli to discuss illegal migration, that the EU assist the relevant Libyan institutions to combat illegal immigration to Europe, and to set up economic projects in Libya and the southern bank of the Mediterranean, and indeed in the African countries from which immigrants come. The participants stressed the need to activate the Libyan Italian Friendship Treaty especially regarding the technical support for surveillance of Libya's southern borders. The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Cooperation for Organisations Affairs and representatives of ministries and concerned government bodies have taken part in the workshop. =Lana=
