Local Councils Pledge Commitment to Legitimacy of GNC.
Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 7 June 2105(Lana) The local councils in Libya have
demanded the head of the UN Support Mission in Libya 'UNSMIL' to be
impartial, and not to stand on the side of either of the parties to
the conflict, as was evident in the third draft that's already been
rejected.
In a statement after their meeting in Tripoli on Saturday, the
mayors of municipalities have pledged their allegiance to the General
National Congress as the representative body in accordance with the
constitutional Court ruling.
The statement said UNSMIL has failed as an international mission
to help Libyans reach a political solution to ensure security and
stability in the country, especially it failed to contribute to the
local municipalities effort to offer humanitarian assistance and help
to the displaced people.
The municipal councils expressed their reservation over the
selectivity adopted by UNSMIL regarding naming some municipalities
and ignoring others using undistinguished standards, the statement
said.
It called for a permanent team to support the General National
Congress in the political dialogue.
