Za'atri Camp, Jordan, 24 May 2105(Lana) The UN High Commissioner
for Refugees Antonio Gotris has said that there was a need for a more
vigorous international effort to support 15 million people displaced
by war in Iraq and Syria.
'We have more than 4 million registered Syrian refugees in the
neighboring countries, Gotris told the Davos Economic Forum meeting
in the Dead Sea, Jordan.
There are about 15 million people who have been displaced by war
in Iraq and Syria, and whose basic needs have to be met, he added.
Other countries have to share the responsibility in supporting the
displaced with Lebanon and Jordan he added.
'We cannot leave Lebanon and Jordan alone to bear this pressure,
we have to ask the international community to shoulder their
responsibilities, to show solidarity with these countries who found
themselves in the forefront of this tragic situation, he said.'
