European Parliamentarians Criticize Marine Mission off Coast of Libya.

Tripoli, 19 May 2105(Lana) The EU Foreign Minister agreement to
set up a military force to confront traffickers of illegal migrants
in the Libyan territorial waters and their attempt to obtain a UN
Security Council Approval has caused a storm of anger in the European
circles.
The parliamentarians criticized what they described as the
militaristic vision with which the EU dealt with illegal migration
portfolio particularly in the Mediterranean.
Eva Jolie of the Greens, France said she was convinced that the
adoption by the foreign ministers of the Sea operation indicated
their reliance on that vision.
Jolly, a member of the Justice and Interior Affairs at the
European Parliament, criticized failure of the EU to commission the
EU Border Guard, or to extend its geographical zone to be able to
save more people.
She warned against the consequences of rejection by the Libyan
authorities of the marine operation, promoted by the EU High
Representative of Feign Affairs and Security Policy Federica
Mogherini, which otherwise would be considered a act of war.
'The attempt to confront migrants concealed a feeling of
impotence on part of Europe, especially, the failure to develop an
integrated foreign and development policy capable of dismantling
traffickers networks and stamping out the migration hotspots.
Resorting to the military option off the Libyan coast was an
indication of the moral bankruptcy of the EU foreign policy, she
said.
Criticism of Mogherini and the marine operation are not
restricted to the European Parliament, many domestic circles see the
mission as a precedent that contradicted peace keeping enshrined in
the EU defence and security policy.
These circles say that the EU reaction to migration made it
unqualified to be a bearer of the Nobel peace prize which it won in
2012.
