EU Launches Sea Operation Against Migrant Smugglers in the Mediterranean.

Brussels, 18 May 2015(Lana) The European Union on Monday launched a Sea operation to combat activities of smugglers who exploit migrants desperation to do what they can to reach Europe. The unprecedented mission calls for deployment of warships and Reconnaissance planes off the Libyan coast, which has turned into a centre for migrant smuggling, authoritative sources in Brussels said. The operation requires approval of the UN before it's virtual start in June, but it was expected to be endorsed by the 28 EU Foreign Ministers after a meeting with their defence ministers counterparts. The EU, accused of indifference to the problem of illegal migration, is facing increasing pressure as tragic incidents mounted in the Mediterranean. This followed an incident in which 800 people drowned after sinking of their boat off the Libyan coast. =Lana=
