UN strongly condemns bombardment of residential areas in Libya.

Tripoli, 16.05.2015 - Lana - The United Nations Support Mission in
Libya 'UNSMIL' , yesterday Friday had condemned targeting residential
area in Libya , reminding that these attacks are constitute as war
crimes , punishable under the international law.
According to the mission's statement , the international special
envoy 'Bernardino Leon' , had expressed his strong regret for the
death of more than eight children , and wounding another four , in
result of bombing neighborhoods in Benghazi city , as well as
shelling residential areas in Gharyan and Zawya cities.
The mission reminded all parties , that the international
humanitarian law prohibits attack against civilians , and could be
considered crimes of war.
Leon , also urged all parties to stop targeting civilians and
civilian properties immediately , and to put an end to the continuing
cycle of violence and revenge.
The mission had renewed its emphasis , that there would be no
military solution for the conflict in Libya , and the long term
fighting actions will only bring more killings and destruction to the
country.
The mission added in its statement that , reaching a political accord
through dialogue , is the only way for stability in the country , and
returning to the democratic process".
