Pulbished on:
Rome, 11 May 2105(Lana) Nato has said that the alliance was ready
to play a role, in support of the mission in Libya which Nato is
discussing with the EU and the UN, in a bid to curb the flow of
immigrants across the Mediterranean.
'We support all efforts being made for a political solution, but
there was no request for our participation, the Secretary General
Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with the Italian newspaper 'La
Stampa' on Monday.
There was no request for our participation, the Secretary said,
indicating that the treaty with Libya programme only involved
rebuilding Libya's capabilities once the security situation
permitted.
'They were hard negotiations, which I do not think should be
tackled in the press, we all know that our mission never was easy. it
is to protect our allies if they face attack, we are upgrading our
capabilities and starting from next year we will have drones for
Nato.
