Moscow, 21 April 2105(Lana) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov has said that the Veto right in the UN Security Council was
not a privilege, but a great responsibility, and that his country
considered the UN a political authority to guarantee sovereignty of
international law.
The use of Veto by Russia and China In UN Security Council gave
settlement in Syria a chance of a political settlement, and efforts
to prevent Syria from being turned into another Libya have achieved
success, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a student
conference at the MGIMO institute of international relations.
There is need for maintaining a balance and the impermissibility
of permitting the international system to be subordinate to any
dictating. Also, it should not be weak," Lavrov said.
International relations have entered a transition in its
evolution, linked to the objective process of establishing a more
plural and democratic system of international relations, that
reflects geographical and cultural diversity, he said.
Some of Russia's western partners could not relinquish their
habits of imposing hegemony over the world, he added.
Lavrov stressed the need not to politicize the issue of human
rights, calling for resolving of issues through dialogue not
condemnation.
