EU Expresses Concern Over Sinking of Immigrants Boat Off Libyan Coast.

Brussels, 20 April 2015(Lana) The European Union has expressed
deep concern for the sinking of a boat carrying immigrants off the
coast of Libya which left nearly 700 dead.
'The EU is deeply concerned by the tragic developments regarding
the sinking of a boat carrying immigrants in the Mediterranean Sea
and also for the other incidents that took place in the last weeks,
the European Commission said in a statement.
The Commission said it was consulting with members states, the
European agencies and international organisations to draw a new
strategy over the migration issue to be adopted by the Commission by
mid May, the statement said.
Nearly 700 illegal immigrants have died when the boat they were
traveling in capsized in the international waters off the Italian
southern shores on Saturday.
An estimated 280,000 illegal immigrants have entered the EU
countries in 2014, mostly from Syria, Eritrea and Somalia.
3500 died in their attempt to cross the Mediterranean to Italy
last year, while 1000 have managed to reach Italy by Sea.
