New York, 14 April 2015(Lana) The UN Security Council has urged
parties to the Libyan conflict to take part in the Morocco talks to
be held on Wednesday, and to agree on arrangements to end the
political, security and institutional crisis in the country.
In a statement, issued in New York late on Monday, the Council
said it was ready to designate those who threaten peace and
stability, and those who obstruct or undermine the political
transition.
The statement said members of the Security Council have taken
note of the meeting of political leaders in Algeria on Monday.
They said they looked forward to the next round of the talks due
to be held in Morocco, facilitated by the UN Special Representative
Bernardino Leon.
A second round of talks was held in Algiers on Monday, attended
by more than 20 political figures, including leaders of political
parties and independent leaders, to discuss formation of a national
unity government and a halt of violence.
The members expressed their concern for the continuing violence in
Libya, stressing that there was no military solution to the crisis,
and called on all parties for a halt of all hostilities to create the
suitable conditions for a comprehensive dialogue.
The statement warned that the Security Council sanctions
committee was fully prepared to designate those who threaten a
successful political transition.
The Council renewed its commitment to the sovereignty,
independence and unity of Libya.
