Washington, 13 April 2105(Lana) The Foreign Ministers of the
United States, France, Britain, Italy and Spain have welcomed the
resumption of Libyan dialogue in Algeria, which involved parties and
independent political leaders to form a national unity government
under the auspices of the United Nations.
A joint statement issued by the six foreign ministers, and
published by the US Department of State, urged all parties to use
this opportunity to finalize agreements of the formation of a
national unity government, and make arrangements for an unconditional
ceasefire.
Only through compromise can Libya move towards a more secure, stable
and prosperous future, the statement said.
The ministers urged all parties to stop the fighting, and to
fully support the UN-Sponsored dialogue.
It called for an immediate cessation of all ground and air
attacks, indicating that such provocative actions undermine UN talks,
and threaten chances of reaching a national consensus.
The Statement warned that those who threaten the peace and
security of Libya, or seek to undermine the completion of the
political transition could face UN sanctions.
'Further delay in reaching a political agreement only deepens the
schisms in Libyan society, and emboldens those who seek to profit
from the ongoing conflict', the statement added.
'The growing threat of terrorism in Libya is of a grave concern
to international community. Extremists use lack of order to their
advantage, causing further suffering and bloodshed both inside and
outside Libya, the statement said.
'The international community is prepared to fully support a unity
government in addressing Libya's challenges, it added.
