EU Council President Rules out Military Intervention in Libya.
Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 31 March 2015(Lana) The President of the European
Council Donald Tusk on Monday ruled out military intervention by the
EU and the US in Libya before a national unity government was formed.
In a press conference with Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat,
Tusk said 'the situation in Libya is the result of total anarchy, the
talks need support, and we fully support the UN-sponsored talks led
by Bernardino Leon, and there is no hope on stability without
formation of a national unity government.'
He said all officials whom he discussed Libya with, including
officials in Malta and Washington have ruled out military
intervention in Libya without an agreement between the political
sides in Libya.
Tusk expressed his satisfaction with the general attitude towards
Libya, namely the effort being made by UN Envoy Leon and the Libyan
parties to set up a unity government as soon as possible.
