Special Envoy of UN Secretary General Urges Libyan Antagonists to Accelerate Talks.

Rabat, 23 March 2015(Lana) UN Special Envoy to Libya Bernardino
Leon has voiced his concern over the military escalation in the
country, and urged all parties to the conflict to accelerate the
talks, being held in Morocco to reach a political agreement.
'Political solution is the ideal and the only way to prevent the
country sliding into civil war, Leon told a press conference on
Sunday in Al Sukheirat, where the talks are being held.
As part of the effort to bridge the gap between the parties, the
UN is considering laying down proposals that could be used as a kick
start for the negotiations, for a final solution of the crisis
rocking the country for years.
Despite the delicate situation and the negative impact of the
recent military actions on the dialogue, the UN Support Mission in
Libya UNSMIL has called on the parties to stay in Rabat and to carry
on with the dialogue, Leon said, noting that he has told the
representatives that military solution only further exhausted the
country.
The mere fact that various parties have decided to stay in Al
Sukheirat is good and encouraging news, Leon said, expressing hope
that the parties would soon be able to reach a consensus on the
security issue, so they could move on to the issue of forming a
national unity government, to start a new phase of the political
transition.
