Brussels, 17 March 2015(Lana) The European Union has stressed the
need to achieve progress in the Libyan political dialogue, saying
lack of political consensus will negatively impact the unity of the
country and the goals of the Feb 17 Revolution.
The EU Council said in a statement on Monday, 'there is no
military solution in Libya and that only the political solution can
achieve progress and contribute to restoring of peace and stability
to Libya.
The Council lauded the UN-backed effort, and called on Libyan
parties to positively engage in the
establishment of national unity government which can push the
democratic transition and reconstruct the country.
In their monthly meeting in Brussels, European foreign ministers
considered Libya at a cross-roads, and called on the parties to
positively take part in the dialogue, adhere to a ceasefire and to
refrain from action that would undermine the talks.
They highlighted in particular the effort being made by the UN
Special Envoy which helped bring Libyans to the negotiating table.
