Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 5 March 2015(Lana) A new round of talks was due to start
in Morocco today, bringing together Libyan parties to the conflict,
after they agreed to a call by the UN Special Envoy Bernardino Leon
to meet, in a bid to end the crisis in the country.
The UN Support Mission in Libya UNSMIL was told by all parties to
the conflict of their wish to take part in the talks, and they all
agreed that talks would focus on the issue of forming a national
unity government, including a discussion on the future prime minister
and his deputies.
The deal also included all parties agreement to discuss security
arrangements, to pave the way for a comprehensive ceasefire and pull
out of all armed groups from cities and towns, and a mechanism for
arms control, and monitoring and execution of agreements as well as
timetables for completion of the draft constitution.
UNSMIL urged all parties to engage in the talks, and to refrain
from reciprocal attacks, which only aggravate the situation and
trigger further infighting.
It reminded all of the relevant provisions of the UN Security
Council Resolution 2174 of 2014, regarding those who seek to
undermine the political process.
