Tripoli, 25.02.2015 (Lana) United Nations Support Mission in Libya
(UNSMIL) underlined that an agreement on strong and independent
government in Libya is a pressing and extremely necessary issue, to
end the acute political division in the country.
In a statement Wednesday it said; Among priorities of this
government is restoring the citizens confidence in the Libyan state,
provide services and confront terrorism which started to pose real
threat to the political process, the Libyan state, security and
stability of the country and the region.
UNSMIL announced convening a series of urgent consultations with
Libyan parties to ensure the convention of the next round of dialogue
soon.
This comes in the aftermath of the latest political and security
developments, particularly the terrorist explosions in Al-Quba City,
and the decision of House of Representatives to suspend its
participation in the political dialogue, it explained.
UNSMIL appealed to all parties not to miss the opportunity and
urged them to renew their commitment to peaceful settlement of the
Libyan crisis.
It said Libyan dialogue rounds were characterized with an
atmosphere of responsibility and seriousness, as the participants
demonstrated high spirit of responsibility and determination to reach
a comprehensive political agreement to end the political crisis and
restore security and stability.
The dialogue also was characterized with complete transparency by
the participants and by the UN and that decisions were taken by the
participants after wide deliberations and consultation that included
all, it added.
It stressed that dialogue was aimed to come up with proposals
which in turn should enjoy the approval of all Libyan sides concerned
and gain support of the people.
UNSMIL stressed that any decision to be taken by the participants
in the dialogue ( if related to mechanism and way of forming
consensual government or in terms of security arrangements pertaining
to ceasefire and withdrawal of armed men from the cities) would be
primarily a Libyan decision and to be taken through consensus of the
participants, which is the already agreed mechanism and without
dictation or imposition by any side.
UNSMIL pledged commitment to unity, independence and sovereignty
of Libya, and neutrality and objectivity in its work and in providing
an appropriate climate to the interlocutors that helps for the
success of the dialogue.
