UNHCR Representative Warns Deterioration of Situation in Libya Could Lead to Massive Influx of Asylum Seekers in Malta.

Tripoli, 11 February 2015(Lana) The deterioration of stability in
Libya could lead to an upsurge in Libyans seeking asylum in Malta,
the local representative of UNHCR in Malta Jon Hoisaeter said.
The Times of Malta quoted Hoisaeter as saying 'Malta had to
prepare for the change, whereby migrant departures would not only
feature sub-Saharan Africans, but Libyans seeking to escape turmoil
in their own land.'
He expressed grave concern over Libya, saying 'the country was
fragmented and close to a failed state scenario.'
He stressed that 'Malta has to revise its laws in line with
judgment of the European Court of Human Rights.'
