Tunis, 9 February 2015(Lana) Tension prevailed the southern
Tunisian city of Bin Gardan, as clashes between protesters, demanding
abolition of transit tax, and security forces resumed on Monday after
a brief quiet.
Protests broke out earlier in the city against a Government
decision to impose a 30 dinar entry tax on Libyan visitors, which
prompted the Libyan side to impose similar tax and further trade
restrictions on Tunisians.
The Tunisian news agency reported that the protests which entered
its second week resumed as a delegation from the Parliament was
conducting negotiations with the Libyan side, to find ways to
reconstruct trade transactions between the two countries.
The protesters were committed to the abolition of the tax,
introduction of development projects and giving priority to trade
exchange between two countries.
Tunisian Army units, however, have taken control of the Al Dheiba
border crossing with Libya on Sunday, after violent clashes with
protesters that left one dead and 14 injured.
