Violence and Sabotage Undermine Archaeological Sites in Libya.

Tripoli, 1 February 2105(Lana) The American Archaeological Centre
has published an article by the Head of the Archaeological Mission in
the Desert 'Savino Zelirenia, on the current state of antiquities in
Libya.
The article said violence and sabotage and unlawful trade in
antiquities have, since the 2011 uprising, caused extensive damage to
archaeological sites and pre-historic stone drawings.
Zelirena said 'study of Libya antiquities should concentrate on
antiquities preserved in museums and archaeological sites.'
He called for digital antiquities classification to be available
to all researchers.
The cultural revolution modern day view of antiquities is a gate
to a common national identity, and a source of income, but all that
has evaporated recently by the ongoing violence, he said.
