Tripoli, 29 January 2015(Lana) The General Director of the
Ministry of Transport Airports Authority has said that six airports
are now ready to receive international flights, despite concerns by
international companies about running flights to Libya because of the
difficult security situation.
'The Mi'tiga Airport in Tripoli and Misrata Airport are
functioning normally, so do the airports of Al Abrag, Tobruk, Ghat
and Kufra, Mohamed Beitulmal told reporters on Wednesday.
'Libya has the capabilities to receive international flights,
though international carriers refuse to run such flights under the
airports pretext, he said.
Repair work at Tripoli International Airport needs financial
allocation by the Government, which so far did not materialize,
because of the non-approval as yet of the 2015 budget, he added.
Parts of the airport have been damaged, while a number of planes
were hit during the armed clashes in the capital, which left damage
estimated at LD 150 million.
Afriqiyah Airways has resumed flights to Europe earlier this
week, with a flights to Dusseldorf in Germany.
Libya has 18 civil airports, including 9 that can handle
international flights.
