Tripoli, 25 January 2015(Lana) Algerian Foreign Minister Ramadan
Al Amamra on Saturday denied that the Nouakchott meeting of Sahel
states has called for a military intervention in Libya, considering
the matter a false interpretation of the declaration issued by the
meeting.
'What has been reported was a false interpretation of the
Nouakchott Declaration', Al Amamra said at a joint press conference
with his German Counterpart Frank Walter Steinmayer who is visiting
Algeria.
'I think what was meant by the declaration, and indeed what has
been expressed by these officials themselves when they visit Algeria
and in their capitals, is a focus on combating terrorism, that's
joining ranks in the fight against this plague, provided that a
chance is given to the efforts being exerted by Algeria to bring
about peaceful solutions, Al Amamra said.
There have some reports in the media following the Dec. 19
meeting in Nouakchott that the final communiqué implied a call to the
UN Security Council to form a an international force in collaboration
with the AU to eliminate the armed groups and to help national
reconciliation and establishment of democratic institutions in Libya.
