Geneva, 14.01.2015 (Lana) The UN announced Wednesday, that talks
between the Libyan parties in Geneva is aimed at breaking the
political stalemate, lingering behind the political and institutional
crisis that swept the country.
In a statement, prior to the launch of the talks in Geneva
Wednesday, the UN said the decision to hold negotiations came after
intensive consultations with all effective parties in Libya by the UN
Secretary General Representative, who is heading the UN mission to
Libya, Bernardino Leon .
It stressed that this new round of talks represent an important
opportunity to Libyan parties taking part in the political process to
lay down the necessary security arrangements to realize full ceasing
of armed hostilities that claimed lives of civilians, made hundreds
of thousands homeless, and caused grave damages to the country's
economy and infrastructure.
What is important is that Libyans should cease the moment and
take all that is necessary to realize peace by joining the talks
which leads in the first place to help Libyans find a common ground,
UN statement urged.
It noted that several representatives of the political and civil
society were invited to the first round of the political talks, and
the other rounds next week will witness invitations to
representatives of selected municipalities across the country.
