Family of Al Megrahi Seeks Review of his Conviction in Lockerbie Bombing.
Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 11 January 2015(Lana) The relatives of Abdul Baset Al
Mergrahi, convicted in the Lockerbie bombing, have filed a request to
review his conviction in the 1988 incident in which 259 were killed.
The CNN news channel has quoted the Scottish Criminal Cases
Review Commission as saying they have received a request to review
the conviction of Al Megrahi in the bombing of the Pan Am flight over
Scotland. Al Megrahi was released in 2009 on humanitarian grounds
after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Tim Swire, whose daughter Fiona 23 was killed in the bombing
said, he joined the relatives in demanding a review of the conviction
and re-examination of the evidence.
Swire doubts responsibility of Al Megrahi, who died two years
ago, in the downing of the plane.
Al Megrahi has applied in 2003 to the commission to review his
conviction, and the court referred the application to the high court
in 2007, but he withdrew the application in 2009 prior to his
release.
