Tripoli, May 25, 2026 (LANA) – The “Tafaseel” Organization for Development and Culture held a dialogue session in Tripoli today entitled: “Libya in the African Context and the Future Prospects of Agenda 2063.”

This event was held to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which falls on May 25th each year. A number of diplomats, academics, and researchers interested in African affairs participated, along with youth representatives and civil society organizations, to discuss the future of Libyan-African relations and the role of youth in the new African project.

The discussions highlighted the transformations that joint African action has undergone since the founding of the OAU in 1963, leading up to the establishment of the African Union. They also reviewed its most prominent institutions, including the African Peace and Security Council, the Pan-African Parliament, and the Economic, Social and Cultural Council, in addition to Agenda 2063, which is considered the long-term strategic vision for the continent.

The session also addressed the role of the African Union's Economic, Social and Cultural Council in promoting the participation of youth and civil society organizations within the Union's institutions. It reviewed several continental initiatives related to youth, development, and peace, in light of the economic, digital, and institutional transformations taking place across the African continent.

Participants emphasized that strengthening Libya's engagement with the African continent would bolster its regional presence and expand its role within the African Union's institutions.

The session was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with former Ambassador to the African Union and expert on African affairs, Saleh Sahboun, and former Head of the Planning Component for the North Africa Region, Mohamed Al-Shaibani.
