LCB discusses with telecommunications companies the development of electronic payment services.

Tripoli, October 27, 2025 (LANA) – The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Mohammed Issa, discussed today, Monday, with the Chairman of the General Telecommunications Authority, Abdul Basit Al-Baour, and representatives of telecommunications companies the cooperation between the telecommunications and banking sectors. They also discussed the role of partnerships in developing electronic payment services, strengthening the infrastructure for digital transformation in the banking sector, improving the quality of services, and expanding the scope of financial inclusion.
This came during their meeting at the Central Bank headquarters, in the presence of representatives from the Telecommunications Holding Company, Libyana, Al-Madar, Libya Telecom and Technology, and relevant departments from the Central Bank. The meeting aims to enhance joint cooperation between national sectors supporting digital transformation.
According to the Central Bank, an agreement was reached to form a joint working group between the telecommunications and banking sectors. This team will monitor and address challenges related to the infrastructure of commercial banks and electronic payment companies, and work to develop them in a manner that supports the Central Bank of Libya's strategy for financial inclusion and ensures the continuity and uninterrupted operation of banking services.
