Tripoli, July 24, 2025 (LANA) – The Chairman of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, participated today, Thursday, in the summit-level meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council on Libya. The meeting was held via Zoom. The meeting was chaired by the President of the Republic of Uganda, the current Chair of the Council, and was attended by the President of the Republic of Congo-Brazzaville, Chair of the African Union Committee on Libya, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, and a number of leaders and representatives of member states of the African Peace and Security Council.

The Council's media office explained that Al-Mnifi recommended, during his speech at this meeting, the need to support the Presidential Council's efforts to consolidate security, strengthen state authority, advance the political process, defend Libya's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and fulfill its national and external obligations. He also stressed the importance of achieving national reconciliation in Libya, calling on the High-Level Committee to conduct an official visit to Tripoli at the level of heads of member states, including neighboring countries.

Al-Mnifi also called on the African Peace and Security Council to conduct a field visit to Libya, at the ministerial or leaders' level, to support the Presidential Council's efforts to call on the Libyan parties to accelerate the holding of long-awaited elections, respect the will of the Libyan people to end the transitional phases, and revive the electoral process, which has been stalled for more than ten years. He emphasized the need to refrain from taking any unilateral measures and to adopt consensus as a means of overcoming differences.

He welcomed support for all national efforts and plans, and worked to enhance transparency, combat corruption, and achieve economic and financial reform. He encouraged African countries to resume their diplomatic presence in Tripoli, support Libya's stability through direct communication with its legitimate institutions, and expedite the reopening of the African Liaison Office in Tripoli, thus enhancing coordination and follow-up from within the country, with this to be completed before the end of next September.

According to the media office, Al-Mnifi stressed the importance of supporting the efforts of the Joint Military Commission (5+5) and building on its successes in achieving a ceasefire and restructuring forces to accelerate the process of unification, while affirming respect for Libyan sovereignty and rejecting all forms of foreign interference. He also stressed support for the national solution process, ending foreign interference, and withdrawing all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya, in support of the state's sovereignty.
