Tripoli, June 19, 2025 (LANA) – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hannah Tetteh, held high-level consultations in the Turkish capital, Ankara, on Wednesday. These consultations included two separate meetings with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burhaneddin Duran and the Director of the Department of North and East Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Onaner.
The meetings, which the UN mission described as fruitful, discussed developments in the political and security situation in Libya, in light of the clashes that took place on May 12 and 13. Both parties stressed the importance of adhering to the truce and the responsibility of all parties to avoid escalation, which could lead to a deterioration of the situation and threaten the lives of civilians.
Tetteh also discussed with Turkish officials developments in the ongoing political process, reviewing the results of the extensive public consultations conducted by the mission in recent weeks, as well as the report of the Advisory Committee and the options presented to advance the process.
The mission indicated, via its official account on the X platform on Thursday, that the two sides also discussed the ongoing preparations for the upcoming international meeting in Berlin, stressing the need to maintain comprehensive and regular international coordination to support the United Nations' efforts to hold elections in Libya as soon as possible.
