Tripoli, May 21, 2025 (LANA) - The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, called on the directors of major commercial banks to unify efforts and enhance coordination to ensure the continuity of financial services provided to citizens and contribute to strengthening confidence in the banking sector.

This came during a meeting held today, Wednesday, with the directors of major commercial banks, in the presence of the Deputy Governor, the Muamalat Financial Services Company, and a number of directors of relevant departments at the Central Bank.

The Governor urged banks to exert greater efforts and focus on developing technical and digital infrastructure, particularly in the areas of electronic payments and instant payment services, given their pivotal role in improving performance efficiency and expanding the scope of banking services.

According to the bank's media office, a number of important topics were discussed during the meeting, most notably the commercial banks' preparations to implement the cash distribution plan for the coming period, especially in light of the exceptional circumstances the country is experiencing.

The meeting addressed ways to develop and enhance electronic payment services, contributing to improving the quality of banking services and expanding the scope of financial inclusion.

The meeting also agreed to reduce the commission rate on electronic payment services to 0.5 percent during this period. Official working hours will be extended to accommodate the liquidity needs of bank customers before Eid al-Adha, and banks will be required to open ATM transactions between commercial banks.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Governor and his Deputy emphasized the need for full compliance with the regulations and instructions issued by the Central Bank of Libya, which will ensure discipline and transparency in banking operations and enhance its stability and development.
