Brussels – May 21, 2025 (LANA) – Libya participated today, Wednesday, in the third ministerial meeting of the foreign ministers of the African Union and the European Union, which kicked off in the Belgian capital, Brussels, with the attendance of high-level representatives from both sides.

Libya was represented at the meeting by Taher Al-Baour, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity. He delivered a speech addressing the item "Defining and Strengthening Cooperation in the Field of Peace, Security, and Governance," stressing the importance of coordinating regional and international efforts to address common challenges.

This meeting comes within the framework of strengthening the strategic partnership between the African and European continents, by reviewing the outcomes of the sixth joint summit, held in Brussels in February 2022. The summit established a set of political and development commitments aimed at consolidating bilateral cooperation in the areas of peace and security, sustainable development, economic integration, and cultural exchange.

The meeting witnessed in-depth discussions on possible mechanisms for activating joint coordination and exploring new horizons for strategic cooperation in preparation for the upcoming seventh summit between the two sides, especially in light of the rapid transformations taking place on the African and international scene.
