Ministry of Economy: Imported goods tax proposal was studied at the request of owners of national factories.

Tripoli, April 23, 2025 (LANA) - The Ministry of Economy and Trade of the Government of National Unity stated, that what has been circulating on social media regarding the imposition of a consumption tax on imported goods is merely a proposal that was studied at the request of a number of owners of national factories, within the framework of protecting Libyan industry and local products from the phenomenon of dumping.
The ministry clarified in a statement issued on Wednesday that this proposal has been referred to the Prime Minister's Office for consideration as part of the economic policy review, but no official decision has been made regarding it to date.
The ministry, stated that it categorically affirms that there is no current intention, in light of the current circumstances facing the country, to impose new taxes on imported goods. It calls on citizens to obtain information from official sources and to exercise accuracy before circulating news.
