Tripoli, April 8, 2025 (LANA) - The Minister of Economy and Trade in the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Huwaij, participated in the extraordinary meeting of the Economic and Social Council at the level of Arab ministers, which was held in Cairo on Sunday and Monday. The meeting discussed completing the requirements for establishing the Unified Arab Customs Union.
This meeting comes within the framework of ongoing preparations for the 35th Ordinary Arab Summit and the 5th Arab Development Summit, both scheduled to be held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, according to a post published by the Ministry of Economy on its official page.
During its meetings, the Council discussed a number of economic and social topics on the agenda of the two summits, which aim to enhance joint Arab economic action. These topics include developing the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, completing the requirements for establishing a unified Arab Customs Union, developing small and medium-sized enterprises in Arab countries, developing a comprehensive plan to develop the technical and vocational education system in Arab countries, and preparing an Arab strategy for developing school and university health. The Council also emphasized the importance of the Arab Food Security Strategy for the period 2025-2035, supporting sustainable development efforts, and enhancing economic and social cooperation among Arab countries.
