Tripoli, March 6, 2025 (LANA) - The Council of Ministers of the Government of National Unity allocated 70 million dinars to the Ministry of Local Government to compensate citizens affected by the fires that occurred in the municipality of Al-Asabaa.
The decision stipulated the formation of a committee by a decision of the Minister of Local Government, which will undertake the implementation of the compensation process, deducted from the miscellaneous item, and will submit periodic reports on the results of its work through the Minister of Local Government for presentation to the Prime Minister.
The city of Al-Asabaa (120 km northwest of Tripoli) witnessed the outbreak of a series of mysterious fires last week that destroyed more than 150 homes, while the competent authorities are still investigating the causes of these fires that caused a state of panic among the residents and led to suffocation injuries and severe damage to property.
The Attorney General Al-Siddiq Al-Sour assigned a team from the Public Prosecution and an advisory committee from the Scientific Research Authority specialized in fire science to head to the city to investigate the incidents.
It recommended seeking the assistance of international experts specialized in the field of fires to help uncover the mystery surrounding these events.
Several ministries in the Government of National Unity, including the Ministry of Social Affairs, have also mobilized their capabilities to provide support to the city’s residents, and have sent specialized relief teams to the area to provide assistance to those affected.
