Italian Civil Aviation Delegation Visits Libya to Evaluate Rehabilitation and Efficiency Plan

Tripoli, March 3, 2025 (LANA) - The Director General of Italian Civil Aviation and his accompanying delegation, which includes a number of specialists in the field of aviation safety monitoring, arrived in the capital Tripoli yesterday, Sunday, on a visit to Libya to review and evaluate the results of the rehabilitation and efficiency improvement plan implemented by the Authority since 2022, and the extent to which it achieves the requirements and conditions for lifting the air ban imposed by the European Union Commission.

The Libyan Civil Aviation Authority stated that this visit, which was coordinated with the European Commission, will last for 5 days, during which the delegation will conduct a comprehensive review of the systems and legislation, the eligibility and efficiency of technical elements, work programs, and methods of monitoring and auditing airlines, and learn about the effectiveness of the digital transformation system in monitoring and achieving aviation safety.

The Authority indicated that the European Commission is hosting an important meeting with specialists in the Civil Aviation Authority at its headquarters in Brussels during the current month of March, with the aim of discussing the corrective measures taken by the Authority in response to the requirements of lifting the air embargo, and deciding whether these steps are sufficient to initiate the procedures for lifting the embargo. The Italian team's mission report will be of particular importance during the upcoming meeting of the European Commission on the Libyan file, as it is the latest practical assessment carried out by a specialized European institution.

The Authority stated that the European team will provide a special briefing to the Minister of Transport of the Government of National Unity before leaving on the preliminary results of its mission report. .
