Pulbished on:

Tripoli, March 2, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya called on the wise men and local and national authorities to intensify efforts to reduce rhetorical tensions and address the root causes of the current escalation.

This came during a two-day symposium organized by the United Nations mission with the participation of members of the Joint Military Commission (5+5), local ceasefire monitors, and members of the Security Arrangements Subcommittee, to discuss and evaluate the phenomenon of the spread of hate speech, misinformation, and inflammatory rhetoric through traditional media and social media platforms in Libya.

The UN mission explained on its official page that the discussions focused on the harmful impact of this discourse on the stability of the ceasefire agreement and on the social fabric in Libya in general, in addition to examining ways to address these phenomena to reduce them, based on Article 5 of the ceasefire agreement signed in October 2020.

In this context, the UN mission stressed the urgent need to put an end to all forms of current inflammatory discourse in the media and social media, and to confront deliberate attempts to deepen divisions among the Libyan people, which threaten national unity based on rich cultural diversity.
