AU Summit kicks-off Saturday and Sunday in Addis Ababa.

Addis Ababa, February 14, 2025 (LANA) - The Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, will hold an African Union summit on Saturday and Sunday, February 15 and 16, devoted to discussing several issues, including reports of the Peace and Security Council, institutional reforms of the union, and developments in the African Continental Free Trade Area project.
During the summit, a chairperson of the commission will be elected, for which three candidates from the East African region are competing: former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Djibouti Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, and former Madagascar Foreign Minister Richard Andria Mandrato.
The summit will also elect a deputy chairperson of the commission, for which candidates from the northern region of Libya, Algeria, Egypt, and Morocco are competing.
