Sudanese Embassy in Tripoli denies BBC allegations.

Pulbished on:

Tripoli - January 24, 2025 (LANA) - The Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Tripoli denied the allegations published by the British Broadcasting Corporation "BBC" about what the corporation described as "Sudanese immigrants" being subjected to violence and assault in Abu Salim prison in Tripoli.

The embassy confirmed in a press statement published on Thursday that it had not received any complaint or report stating that a Sudanese immigrant was subjected to violence or sexual assault inside Libyan prisons or during the period of detention.

The statement added, that the embassy praises and appreciates the level of cooperation and coordination between the embassy and the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency, and the assistance and support that the agency has continued to provide to Sudanese expatriates of both sexes, and the complete keenness to maintain continuous communication with the embassy for the purpose of releasing and receiving them, in implementation of the directives of the Libyan Government of National Unity, which stipulates that Sudanese expatriates to the sisterly state of Libya be treated as Libyans and that all facilities and assistance be provided to them during the ordeal that Sudan is going through.

The statement continued, "The embassy was also obligated to praise the level of coordination between the embassy and the administration of Abu Salim prison, specifically, and the rest of the Libyan prisons and other detention centers, and the keenness to release detainees of Sudanese nationality, which refutes and refutes what the BBC went to in its inaccurate report, which lacks credibility, in which the agency allocated expatriates of Sudanese nationality to the exclusion of other expatriates to the sisterly state of Libya.
