Arab Council of Ministers of Communications and Information launches a unified strategy for AI.

Cairo, January 24, 2025 (LANA) - The Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information decided to launch a unified strategy for artificial intelligence within a strategic framework that all Arab countries are committed to in their work in the Artificial Intelligence industry.

This came at the conclusion of the (28) session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information, which was hosted by Egypt yesterday, Thursday, and organized by the Technical Secretariat of the Council at the League of Arab States, in which Libya participated with a delegation headed by the Chairman of the General Authority for Communications, Abdul Basit Al-Baour.

The strategy aims to build Arab economies capable of contributing to the local and global product by adopting artificial intelligence technologies by enabling their individuals and institutions to achieve maximum benefit from it within a strict ethical framework.

The strategy includes several axes and areas of cooperation, including setting rules and an integrated Arab framework for the governance of artificial intelligence at the level of Arab countries, and enhancing the use and adoption of artificial intelligence and its applications in priority sectors in the Arab region.

The strategy aims to establish a unified Arab framework for building human capacities and raising public awareness of issues related to artificial intelligence, empowering Arab entrepreneurs and start-ups in the field of artificial intelligence, and establishing partnerships and cooperation with leading regional and international entities and organizations in the field of artificial intelligence.

It also includes continuing effective and continuous support for the Palestinian people in various elements of the communications and information technology sector, and coordinating positions on various issues related to communications and information technology such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, postal services and other active and important elements in the communications and information technology sector.

The Arab Telecommunications Ministers Council agreed to unify their position on the UN Global Digital Charter, which was approved by countries at the Future Summit in September 2024.

They also agreed on Arab work in the ICT sector this year based on five main axes: the Charter for Responsible Artificial Intelligence, stimulating innovation, entrepreneurship and creative intellectual performance, a unified governance framework for data protection and localizing it within the Arab world, full cooperation on cybersecurity issues and building strong cyber dams for databases in Arab countries, developing digital infrastructure and narrowing the digital gap in our Arab societies.

At the end of the meeting, the Arab Ministers Council announced the selection of the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Amman, as the Arab Digital Capital for 2025.
