Pulbished on:Cairo, January 24, 2025 (LANA) - Chairman of the General Authority for Communications and Information Technology, Abdul Basit Al-Baour, stressed that Arab cooperation in the field of communications and information technology "has become a strategic necessity".
Al-Baour said in a speech at the meeting of the (28) session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information Technology, which concluded yesterday, Thursday, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, that the acceleration of digital transformation and artificial intelligence globally imposes challenges that require strengthening the Arab digital infrastructure, securing data, protecting privacy, and developing human competencies to lead the digital future and face its challenges.
He added that the meeting represents an ideal platform for exchanging experiences and successful experiments among member states, which contributes to advancing the wheel of digital transformation and achieving digital sovereignty at the level of the Arab world, noting that Arab cooperation in the field of communications and information technology "has become a strategic necessity".
The current session focused on adopting a unified Arab vision for artificial intelligence and establishing a regulatory framework that protects against the risks of artificial intelligence without over-setting frameworks that restrict digital creativity and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in this field.
The session discussed enhancing joint Arab action to localize data in the region, setting clear strategies to develop a digital infrastructure that stimulates private sector investment in data centers and local computing clouds, and unifying Arab initiatives planned to be included in the International Telecommunication Union plan at the development conference that will be held this year in Azerbaijan.
