GNU delegation arrives in Damascus.

Damascus, December 28, 2024 (LANA) - A delegation from the Government of National Unity headed by the Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs "Walid Al-Lafi" arrived in Damascus today, Saturday, on the first official visit since the fall of the Assad regime.

According to the government's media office, the delegation that met with the Commander-in-Chief of the new administration in Syria "Ahmed Al-Sharaa" also included the Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation "Ali Al-Abed", and the Director of the Military Intelligence Department, Major General "Mahmoud Hamza".

During the meeting, according to the media office, Al-Lafi conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Al-Dbaiba to the Syrian leadership and people, stressing the position of the State of Libya in support of the rights and freedom of the Syrian people.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, and discussed prospects for cooperation in the political, economic and security fields, as well as regional risks and common challenges, in addition to issues of common interest that contribute to achieving security and stability in the region.

The two parties stressed the importance of developing joint work mechanisms and enhancing dialogue to serve the common interests of the Libyan and Syrian peoples.
