Al-Kilani represents Libya in the first international conference on the care economy and social protection in Morocco.

Rabat - June 28, 2024 - (LANA) - The Minister of Social Affairs of the Government of National Unity, Wafa Al-Kilani, represented Libya in the activities of the first international conference on “The Economy of Care and Social Protection,” at the invitation of the Social Sector of the League of Arab States and the Minister of Solidarity, Integration and Family in Morocco.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Al-Kilani stressed in her speech during the conference the importance of the care economy and social protection in view of the social, climatic, political and economic changes that societies are exposed to today, which in turn directly or indirectly affect the daily lives of citizens.

She stressed the need to implement solutions to address these changes at the local, regional and international levels, emphasizing that the welfare economy and social protection with all its tributaries are a factor in supporting sustainable development programs and promoting economic growth for all members of society.

She reviewed the role of the Ministry of Social Affairs in strengthening and paying attention to social protection systems to establish equal rights among the Libyan people and working to improve the quality of life by supporting increased incomes, basic and security pensions, and paying attention to all family programs.

She also stressed that the Ministry has completed developing and updating the national strategy for social protection, that suits today's changes and needs and ensures comprehensiveness to achieve social justice to be a right for all members of society at home and abroad. Stressing the importance of exchanging experiences and expertise between countries to ensure the development of comprehensive and sustainable social protection systems for all.

 During her speech, Al-Kilani reaffirmed Libya's support for the Palestinian cause, given the conditions that the State of Palestine is going through and the challenges it faces in terms of social protection for its citizens.

During the International Conference on the Economy of Care and Social Protection, which witnessed the participation of ministries of social affairs from several Arab, African and Asian countries and local and international organizations and associations, a ministerial round table was organized, which included three main sessions. In the first session, speeches by ministers from the participating countries: Azerbaijan, Jordan, Lebanon. , Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, Iraq, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait, Sudan, Cameroon, Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Sultanate of Oman, Gambia, Uganda, Somalia, Côte d'Ivoire, and Singapore, and the second session: Keynote from "Laura Aditi “Maternity Protection Expert (ILO). In the third session, there were interventions from representatives of United Nations agencies, banks, and public institutions, including the United Nations, the World Bank, UNICEF, the World Health Organization, and many other organizations.
