Member States of the CSTO stress the importance of holding free and fair elections in Libya.

Astana, June 23, 2024 (Lana): Foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states called on all Libyan parties to continue consultations to prepare the necessary conditions to hold free and fair elections in the country.

The foreign ministers, in a statement they issued following a meeting held by the CSTO in Kazakhstan about the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, expressed their support for the political process led and implemented by Libyans with the assistance of the UN.

They also expressed their deep concern about the ongoing instability in Libya for more than 10 years, stressing their commitment to Libya's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The CSTO's membership includes the countries of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, and Tajikistan.
