Africa Day: Libya urges African countries to deal with the continent’s historical and pressing issues.

Tripoli, May 25, 2024 (LANA) - Today, May 25, 2024, the peoples of the African continent celebrate the (Africa Day), which marks the anniversary of the founding of the first joint African action organization, the Organization of African Unity, in 1963.

On this occasion, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the State of Libya once again urged African countries to deal with the continent’s historical and urgent issues in accordance with its vision and specificity and to avoid lining up behind the tensions that have brought the current international system to complex levels that require the continent to adhere to its positions in support of reforming the international system and all its institutions.

Today, according to the statement, also marks the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the African Peace and Security Council, in which the State of Libya was elected in 2004 as a founding member.

The statement stressed that this occasion calls for more African thinking, coordination, consultation and action in order to improve the state of peace, security and stability on the continent and for the State of Libya to continue to contribute supporting African efforts to unify the institutions and bodies of the African Union towards greater cooperation and effective contribution to the success of Africa’s efforts towards international issues.
