Al-Manfi meets Stephanie Khoury

Tripoli, May 22, 2024 (LANA) - The President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, met this afternoon, Wednesday, at the Council’s headquarters, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Libya, the Acting Head of the Mission, “Stephanie Khoury”, at the beginning of her duties to discuss ways to achieve progress in Completing the implementation of the preliminary phase of the elections.

The media office of the Presidential Council reported that the meeting touched on international and regional efforts to advance the political process and address the economic path through restructuring the economy and the administrative system and a unified budget through the Supreme Financial Committee and combating corruption, inflation of spending and smuggling. It was also agreed on the importance of reactivating the security path through the framework of the committee. 5+5 and moving forward with the human rights path emerging from the outcomes of the Berlin Conference under the signed protocol, which requires effective procedural steps, and emphasizing the completion of the completed comprehensive national reconciliation project, which is the jurisdiction of the Presidential Council.

The office explained that “Stephanie” affirmed the support and backing of the Presidential Council, close coordination in all integrated paths, and support for holding elections for municipalities in achieving the people’s aspirations for stability and their direct right to decide their options and choices, leading to the legislative and presidential elections that guarantee the country’s unity, sovereignty, and independence.

Al-Manfi expressed - according to the same source - his appreciation for the role of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the UN mission in Libya and their continued work with the Presidential Council in partnership, stressing his keenness to continue his approach in communicating with all parties and institutions and responding to all local and international initiatives that aim to reach a state of stability and achieve elections.
