Batili stresses the role of eastern Libyan notables in preserving the social fabric in Libya.

Benghazi, December 12, 2023 (LANA) - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Abdullah Batili, stressed the decisive role of notables in the Libyan East in preserving the social fabric in Libya and creating popular momentum to reach successful elections.

This came during his meeting today, Wednesday, in the city of Benghazi, with a group of notables in the East as part of his ongoing efforts to involve all parties from all parts of Libya, as he wrote on his account on the (X) platform.

"Batili" said that the notables reaffirmed to him their support for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, reiterating the popular demands for institutions that enjoy legitimacy, and they also presented their views on resolving the crisis in order to enhance the Libyan-Libyan consensus, pointing out that he urged them to bear responsibility and exploit their position to mobilize popular support for the electoral process.
