Relief Committee of the Ministry of Economy is looking into Derna to support affected families.

Derna, September 22, 2023 (LANA) - The Chairman and members of the Committee for Support and Coordination of Relief Efforts at the Ministry of Economy and Trade discussed with members of the Supreme Committee for Emergency and Rapid Response in the Eastern Region coordination of efforts to support families affected by floods in the cities and villages of the eastern coast of Libya.

During the meeting held in the city of Derna, attendees reviewed the urgent needs and requirements of the affected families, the priorities of the stage to support the affected municipalities, and the mechanism for resuming commercial activities and providing services to citizens, according to the Ministry of Economy of the National Unity Government.

The attendees were briefed on the efforts of the management committees of the al-Bayda Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture, Derna, and Benghazi to provide housing units for affected families in municipalities, with the support of businessmen and companies.

The attendees stressed that the priorities of this stage require intensified efforts with the participation of chambers of commerce and business owners in various regions to provide housing units for the surviving families who left for the cities and municipalities of the eastern, western and southern regions.

According to the Ministry, the Chairman and members of the committee toured the affected neighborhoods in the city of Derna and its neighboring municipalities and villages, Al-Bayda and Al-Makhili, to determine the extent of the damage to private and public property.
