This was made by its Ambassador and Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland, who warned that today's clashes in Misrata show the serious possibility that the recent violence will escalate.
Ambassador Norland said in a series of tweets (these rising tensions show the urgent need for Libyan political leaders to immediately adopt an agreed path to elections that can establish a truly legitimate unified government to serve the interests of all Libyans).
Norland added that "armed efforts, whether to test or defend the current political situation, risk bringing Libya back to an era that its citizens believed was gone, pointing out that those responsible for such a scenario would be held accountable.
