Political parties stress respect for will of the people to hold elections as soon as possible.

 Tripoli, 3 July , 2022 (Lana) – The political parties stressed the need to respect the will of the people and heading to their demands to hold presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.

This came in a joint statement that warned against ignoring or underestimating the will of the people.

The parties confirmed their standing with all Libyans, and with their right to demonstrate, sit-in, peaceful protest, and declare civil disobedience until their demands are met.

The statement held the House of Representatives and the High Council of State fully responsible for “ their failure and their inability to approve a constitutional rule and agree on a specific date for holding the presidential and legislative elections,” stressing its rejection of all negative international interventions in the Libyan crisis, including attempts to dictate, even if they came in the form of statements or proposals.

We also hold them to their international legal responsibilities. The parties urged the Presidential Council to assume responsibility and fulfill its pledges in response to the people's calls.

The statement of the 31 parties followed the demonstrations in several Libyan cities denouncing the deteriorating living conditions, rejecting the current political bodies in power, and demanding their departure and holding elections without delay.
