Diplomatic sources: Continuing division over Libya in Security Council.
Pulbished on:Washington, 20 April, 2022 (Lana) - The United Nations Security Council held a closed meeting on Tuesday to discuss the Libyan file and the future role of the United Nations, two issues that still cause division among its members, especially over the appointment of a new envoy in Libya, according to diplomatic sources.
French press agency quoted, a diplomat, who asked not to be identified, that the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, stressed at Tuesday's meeting the importance of extending the international mission for a year.
In response to a question about Libya in his daily press conference, United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that "the main message publicly and privately is the necessity of the unity of Libyan leaders for the sake of the Libyan people."
