Pulbished on:Tripoli, 13 April 2022 (Lana) The Egyptian capital Cairo, on Wednesday, will host meetings of members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State under the auspices of the United Nations to discuss consensus on a constitutional rule for holding elections.
The House of Representatives spokesman Abdullah Bleiheg said in press statements that meetings of the committees of the Lower And Higher Houses of Parliament are expected to begin today in Cairo. "The committee of the House of Representatives was formed on the basis of the 12th Constitutional Amendment passed by the House in February to amend controversial articles in the draft constitution submitted by the constituent body to draft the constitution," Bleiheg said.
"The committee of deputies is authorized by virtue of its decision, to make the necessary amendments to the draft constitution only," he said, adding that "the decision to establish the committee provides for the referral of anything other than this to the House of Representatives for decision, and therefore the committee has the right only to consider the contentious points in the constitution."
He confirmed the arrival of the committee of deputies in the Egyptian capital, on Tuesday, and said he suspected that the meetings of the two committees will start, Wednesday, denying that they received details of the agenda, or any invitation to hold any session of the House of Representatives.
The House of Representatives formed a 12-member committee to review the points of contention in the draft constitution and make the necessary amendments, and the formation decision stressed that the Committee was committed to the 12th Constitutional Declaration and that, if disagreement arises, the committee's work will b submitted to the House of Representatives.
